Blog Review – John’s Left Field

Blog Rating 5This blog struck a part of me from the very first post. As many of us trying to make a living online, John left his job in search of something better, and uses his blog as an output for his frustrations.

Many of us did the very same thing. With nothing else to turn to, we suddenly had the urge to change something in our lives. We left work, and set out to start all over again. My career was ended by me after 17 years. Not that I didn’t like the job, but something told me it was time. John Left has done the very same thing. He left his career, and is now blogging about everything in life that gets him wound up.

This blog is a perfect example of “Looks aren’t everything.” The blog is a standard Blogger blog. Nothing fancy about it, but it doesn’t really matter. The writing of this man is nothing less than “Superb!!” John is an obviously a very intelligent individual. He has a style of writing that is hard to look away from, and I just read 12 months of his blog posts word by word, and left wishing there were more.

The blog is about more than just a guy looking for a job. It’s about his outlook on life, and his refusal to give in to oppressive forces of today’s society. He not only writes, but he is also a dedicated reader. Not many of us can claim to be up to date on what is happening in the world around us, but this man can. He is a faithful reader such things as the Chicago Tribune, and Rolling Stone. I am guessing those are just the tip of what he uses to educate himself about the world.

I ask that you visit John’s Left Field. While you are there, don’t miss one of the most insightful prospectives on advertising that you may ever see, or read one of my favorite blog posts of all times. It is one about the remembrance of fallen heroes. I promise you will not be sorry, and there is a good possibility that you may even become an addict.

With no fancy designs, and not much more than just fantastic writing and opinions, I am placing this blog into the Bloggeries Spotlight, as one of the best. I look forward to more.

ProBlogger by Darren Rowse

blog reviewI’m trying hard to avoid the obvious. The blogs that everyone knows and likes. The ones that need no further introduction and don’t invite any critizism. Pro Blogger falls under that category for sure.

Darren has granted me an interview on my blog and the more he says, the more he convinces me that he understands blogging and the concept behind it, more than anyone I know. ProBlogger discusses anything that relates to blogging.
Darren is very big on tips as well:

Adsense Tips and News
Advertising Tips
Affiliate Programs
Blog Design Tips and News
Blog Promotion Tips
SEO Tips
Writing Content Tips

I’m just a normal guy. If anything I’m a little shy. he has told me.
If this is true, he has definitely found the perfect outlet in blogging.

Out of all the blogs in the world, ProBlogger is my absolute favorite, since it’s taught me more about blogging than anyone or anything else.
He also has guest bloggers such as Lyndon from FlockBlog sharing Ten Tips for writing a Blog Post.

All in all I believe that this blog will be around and getting even better for many more years to come. It’s a must visit. A 5 star plus! Thank you, Darren for providing us with so much great information and so many solid insights.

Review of ~da greyscale world

Rated 2 at Bloggeries

~da greyscale world: when da real one waznt good enuf. Along with this less than articulate block of text, visitors are greeted by an impressive custom black and white header. As I looked through this blog, I realized that it’s only strong point were the integration of pictures and graphics. Other than that, I wasn’t very pleased with it.

To begin with, the blog has a dark background with white text. Although this color scheme can work for certain web sites, I don’t ever believe it’s good for blogs (way too hard on the eyes). However, in the case of this blog, it almost works out, due to the lack of content. When it comes to blogs, there is one thing that can make them or break them: content. Now it’s not necessary to update a blog four times a day, but any respectable blog should be updated daily (even if it’s only with a picture, video or news story). In the case of ~da greyscale world, although it has been online since February 2006, it only contains nineteen posts.

Of these nineteen posts, most read like a giant run-on sentence. Most blogs don’t need to have flawless grammar, but it is a little ridiculous to try and read an entire post that is the equivalent of a text message. As I said earlier, the only redeeming quality of the posts are that they have quite a few pictures integrated (although a few of the pictures are missing due to uploading errors).

I wish I could right more, but honestly there is not a lot that caught my attention. Overall, ~da greyscale world is a good example of a personal blog that started out with good potential, but slowly fizzled away due to lack of motivation. Creating a blog is not an easy task, but if you are willing to invest the time and effort, you will be very pleased with the end product.
