DVD Spin Doctor Home Video News and Reviews – Blog Reveiw

If you are into movies, you are going to love this site. This site is designed for the couch potato DVD buff, the DVD Spin Doctor, consider it “Adventures in viewing and reviewing” from the author Glen Abel. The site is dedicated to ensuring you are in the know about all that is good and evil in the world of DVD’s and brings you just about every last tidbit of information you could want regarding DVD’s. You will find here DVD reviews, home video news, upcoming DVD’s, technology reviews, and industry information. This wealth of information comes to you from Glen Abel, an L.A. writer who has credits to his name such as The Hollywood Reporter, Reuters, and a wealth of global papers that have shared his work with the world. He is well-versed in the DVD world, is one that gets a first look at many, and knows what is what in the industry – and his DVD blog certainly reflects that. His DVD reviews focus on the DVD, how they look and sound, and he plays an emphasis on the bonus materials. I have to love that, I never take the time to watch those, perhaps he can enlighten me on what I am missing? He prefers DVD’s that deliver artistically, and you can see this in his wealth of reviews you will find on the site.

Recent posts include “Night and Day: Russian Tales of the Supernatural”, “Meet your dream movie reviewer”, “DVD Reviews: True Grit, Rio Bravo”, “Week’s Top DVD’s”, “DVD Giveaway: Fired!”, “Today’s new DVD’s: Leone, McQueen, and Clooney”, and “Blu-Ray special: $499 player from Sony” among so many more. One of my favorite posts, “Meet Your Dream Movie Reviewer” will let you take a critic’s test to see which famous movie reviewer you are most in sync with. No longer can you have the loveseat arguments with your companion, see if someone else in the know actually agrees with you on how bad that flick really was! You will have to check out the post to find out more….

Navigation on this site is so simple, and given how much is included here that is pretty impressive. Posts are centered down the middle of the page, and there are both left and right sided navigation bars that are replete with links that will have you roaming and reading for hours. I could lavish pages alone telling you what is included here, but in the honor of time I will leave you a tidbit. On the left sided bar you will find links to the five most popular reviews such as “The Departed”, a full index to all of the reviews on site, a host of contact information on the author as well as his about page and additional blog. Check out some ‘Deja-Vu’ Reviews such as the Good the Bad and the Ugly, or if you are a true diehard then take some time out to see what other DVD bloggers are talking about. If you are shopping around for a new place online to get your home DVD’s, you will find a host of links here as well. On the right, you will find the wide assortment of categories this blog offers such as Academy Awards, categories for movie genres, recent posts links, and DVD theme pages.

This site is getting a 4.5 from me, near perfect. The only thing I would change here is the presence of advertising. I think this blog deserves its readership, and thus, any monetization from it. However I would move the right sided AdSense bar a little bit lower and keep content at the top of the page so that ads are not the first thing people see when they open the page up. This blog is definitely unique and certainly distinguishes itself from other DVD blogs, and the navigation is very easy. Further, it is attractive and appealing in design and there are plenty of appropriate pictures, and just enough as well. The content definitely scores very well also with phrases such as “Nixonian customer service” proving that you are fortunate to be reading an excellent blog from an accomplished writer. If you like movies, bookmark this one, there is something new everyday for you.

Jafabrits Art Blog – Bloggeries Review

So if you are looking to add some culture into your life but just never seem to find the time, you should take a moment to enjoy some online. Have a peek at Jafabrit’s Art Blog and it will not take you long to see that Jafabrit does not just have art in her life, but art IS her life. I have to admit, the visual impressionists are not one of my forte’s, so I can’t adequately describe what kind of art she performs, but that is excuse enough for you to have a look at her Blog. Jafabrit, who hails from Yellow Springs, OH, describes herself as the artist of the blog, and “a bit of a cheeky Geordie lass” she likes “me kippers, marmite, a good curry, and mass quantities of tea”. As with any art, her blog is a very personal one with a person-to-person feel. You almost feel like you are sitting down with her enjoying one of those endless cups as you read her posts, “Sketchbook” – an interesting post where she combines a photograph into one of her sketches, “I Love This” — a You Tube video that you have to see to believe, “Art Balls Debut and Other Stuff” – a really neat photo that her daughter took and had printed onto canvas, “Resin Painting and Oddities”, and “Photos of Gatlinburg and Smokey Mountains”.

Navigation on this site is very simple, and, quite enjoyable really. Each post is accompanied with gorgeous pictures that have this unbelievable clarity. I found it striking how the art literally jumped off the page to me, and being that it was a photo of an art piece, then digitized to view online I found that remarkable. On the post with her sketchbook for example, you can actually see the creases in the sketchbook. I can only imagine how brilliant the real life pieces must be. Each post is left marginalized and there is a right sided navigation bar. This contains a very comprehensive listing of her blog rolls and the blogs she likes to visit, as well as a couple of her Thinking Blogger Awards. Check out her links which contain all things artistic, including her portfolio and website, various galleries, and some personal artsy links that add to her eclectic vision. Here you will also find the “Good Blogs – A Community of Bloggers Promoting Bloggers”, where you can read blogs like “Caffeine isn’t a drug, it’s a vitamin!” and “LaCasse Gallery” among others.

I am going to go with a 4 for this one. When it comes to personal blogs, as this one obviously is, this is one of the best I have seen. Navigation and content all score very high and the uniqueness of the blog is exceptional. In very few posts you get a true feel for this artist and her vision. So much so that I wouldn’t mind seeing more frequent posts. There also is an extensive readership here so I don’t think it would hurt to put some advertising on the blog as well. Overall, I think this is an excellent personal blog, and certainly awakened some artistic appreciation from this writer.

-The Free Grabber – Free Samples and Stuff! – Bloggeries Review

What would you think if I gave it to you FREE? Well, you would probably take it then, wouldn’t you? Wait a second, you don’t even know what I am talking about. In this day and age, it doesn’t really matter. The word FREE is one of the biggest marketing tools used today by many companies to get your attention. How does it work? They give you something free, make sure you fall in love with it, and get you as a customer. If you like FREE stuff, then you have to check out this blog: The Free Grabber!. This site is basically just a general site directing you to the companies that are offering free stuff. All posts come in the form of a FREE offer, and recent posts include things like “Free Blue Buffalo dog and cat food samples”, “Free Slider Tie”, “Free San Francisco Visitor’s Kit”, “Free Planet Heroes DVD from Fisher Price”, “Free Sample Whiskas Purrfectly Fish”, “Free Sample of Calgon Juicy Scents”, “Free Golf Tees“, “Free St. Ives Healthy Brilliance Sample”, and “Free Sample of Reynolds Slow Cooker Liners”, and “Free ID Lubricant Sample”.

Navigation on this site is very easy. There isn’t that much to the site outside of free offers. There is a category section on the right-handed navigation bar so if you want specific free product, you can check out the Books and Magazines, Entertainment, Everything Else, Food and Drinks, Health and Beauty, Household, Pet Stuff, and Walmart Freebies. The rest of the right handed bar is pretty much just AdSense and advertising. I do like how there are relevant pictures in every post, and also that the navigation bar has content, even though it is advertising, right to the bottom of the page where most blogs find it difficult to fill up that very bottom space on the right side.

I will still give this one a 3. It didn’t feel really bloggy to me, the content offered what it was supposed to but I didn’t get any of that person-to-person feel that you should be getting from a blog. The post content actually looks a little cut and paste from manufacturer’s websites. I think the layout is nice, and suitable for the blog theme. The posts are pretty heavy though. With several going on a day, weeding through it to get to blog content is a challenge. I do appreciate the theme of the blog, everyone wants to find free stuff, but I would like to see some more meat on this page content wise. Otherwise just a website on freebies would serve the same effect.
