If you are looking for some quality advice from the psychology field, then look no further. Here at Psychlinks Blog take an opportunity to meet Dr. David Baxter, a psychologist located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Baxter works in private practice and runs a network of sites in the Psychiatric and Mental Health field, one of them being the Psychlinks Blog. This blog is a very interesting one, with such a diverse amount of information that you will be sure to spend a great deal of time there. The purpose of the blog is to be an occasional commentary on psychology, psychiatry, mental illness, mental health, relationships, parenting, the internet, and life of an Ottawa psychologist. You can check out any of his most recent posts to see the eclectic mix of this blog. Just a few of the recent ones include DMOZ reaches a new low, Grief: How long will it take?, The sad state of Canada’s health care system: A rant, and General psychology: bad logic, bad science, and sensationalism.

The blog is fairly straightforward with a standard layout and easy to navigate design. The posts are left marginalized and the blog contains a right sided navigation bar. In the right you will find a host of medical and mental health related links including a few directories of mental health resources, DMOZ resources, Happy Mind – Happy Mood, Langa blog, Psychology forums, and PyschLinks Network just to name a few. You will also find a very comprehensive list of categories here on just about any topic in psychology, and then some. Check out Dr. Baxter’s book reviews, parenting, mental disorders, life, medicine, grief, general psychology, technology, therapy and therapists, and site reviews.

I am going with a 3.4 for this one. I found the layout very appealing and easy on the eye, and there was enough advertising to monetize the blog without overwhelming it. The blog scores well for uniqueness as well, it is a dedicated niche with a lot of interesting extras that do not distract from the purpose of the blog. The content was spectacularly written, but obviously the content is coming from one that is well-versed in the field. I would suggest that if possible to increase the content a bit in terms of activity. Overall, I think it’s a very well done blog that I am certain serves its readers well. I’m also sure they wish it was updated more often as well!

If you are looking for a sort of off the beaten path music blog, this may be just the one for you – Cyber Music. Cybersmusic is a blog featuring the best music from Americana, Blues, Classic, Rock, Country, Funk, Jazz, Latin, Metal, Pop, and you name it, it is there. You will also find some excellent running commentaries and favorites from the blog writer who classifies himself as a classic rocker. This self-described rocker has over 20 years experience in the music industry including being club and radio DJ for Warner Elektra Atlantic Record Sales, marketing, promotion, as well as a long history of being musically inclined himself. You can get a true flavor for this writer’s interests, as well as his keen ear for music through his recent posts: Warner Music Group & PremiumTV create video digital hubs, McCartney Thursday Night Live

Navigation on this site was great. In fact, it is one of the best laid blogs I have seen yet. There was one slight formatting issue on the front page, where the right sided navigation bar seemed to have dropped a little low on the page, but this glitch is minor. The posts are left marginalized, contain excellent content and catchy titles, and all have relevant links and newsworthy mentions in each of them. On the right side you will find a navigation menu to take you to the archives of the blog. This is an excellent feature of the blog. When you go to the archives section, you will get a full text link to each post in the archives. This way you don’t have to search for a needle in a haystack if you like to go through archived posts. I love this, it makes the blog so much user friendly, and wish I could see this in more of them. Scrolling through the categories you are going to find different links for genres of music, CD, Digital Downloads, DRM, DVD, Festival, Internet Radio, iPod, Lessons, Live Gig, Ringtones, and many many more. On the right sided bar, you can also visit other music blogs that are of interest to the writer and may be of you as well.

I am going to go ahead with 4.5 on this one, only because that formatting glitch on the front page is really distracting. However all else are all systems go. The content is very well written, and I love the interludes of news in between posts. Headlines are extremely catchy, and the Paul McCartney new album post/experience and posts like this really make this blog stand out from other reviews of the same album. The navigation is very well done (but for the glitch) and the activity scores are very high as well. I look forward to more updates from this site.

You might be looking for a blog that has a little bit of everything that involves what may be called “hot topics” on the web today. You know, television, Internet, technology, online video business, that kind of thing. Alex Klive has attempted to do just that with his World TV Blog. The goal with is blog is to bring you news and commentary on the developments taking place in Internet Television and broadband video. His intent is to provide to the world subjective reviews and analysis of online video content and his target audience is consumers, but is hoping to reach others in the industry as well. To get an idea of his blog, you can check out his recent posts: New keyboard controlled news application, What is World TV Beta? What is a beta?, Fixing an overheating Inspiron 1300 laptop, Football News Sites, Facebook Fatigue – The curse of the Social Networking sites, David Chase speaks, The End of the Sopranos, RCTV Broadcasts reach 100,000 viewers in 100 countries, and A review of WorldTV from Profy.com.

I will say the site is somewhat difficult to navigate. When you go to the main page, everything is left marginalized. The site has standard black text on white background and as mentioned, is left marginalized. Scroll right through the bottom to find the stuff that blogs are made of. There is a menu for consumer blogs that contains links to the “Official Google Video Blog” and the “TV Squad”. You can also find a menu for assorted Industry Blogs relating to media and online television. There is another menu for industry jobs, and some additional links you may want to get to. Navigation is so difficult that it took me some time to find the “About Me” page which is sort of clustered in the mix on the left navigation bar dumped way down at the bottom. When you do get there however, you will find some good content, an excellent introduction to Klive, the owner, and oddly enough, the categories menu in a right sided navigation bar. Here you can check out any of the World TV Categories he has made, Most Popular Videos on the Internet, About the Author and Introduction to this Blog, Contact Us, Content News, Event Dates, Guides and Tutorials, Miscellaneous, My Favorite Video Clips, Rants and Raves, and Software Tools. All very valuable links if you take the time to find them, which, given how difficult this site is to navigate, I am guessing you won’t.

So this site is getting a 2.8 from me, and I am sure you can guess why. When a site isn’t easy to navigate it does not matter how good the content is, I am too distracted to fully appreciate it. I did like the style of writing, the review of Facebook post for example was excellently written and very comprehensive. I only wish the formatting could be revamped so that the readership can focus on what the blog is about, the content. I think given the nature of the blog, the links and categories and content are all excellently done and relevant but again, so poorly formatted. The author needs to work on this blog and then I think his readership will appreciate the content the way it deserves to be.
