What Should I Blog About?

One of the biggest factors which contribute heavily to whether or not a person decides to blog is knowing what to write about. People are often asking these questions, because they have interest in keeping and writing in a blog, but are not certain what should be written about. Honestly, what this really is, is a matter of people making the situation much more difficult than it has to be. Blogs can be written about virtually any subject in the world, so the better question to ask is "What can you NOT blog about?"

Blogs or web logs are essentially just a public, digital journal. Depending on who creates the blog and for what underlying purpose, the blog entries posted can be about just about anything both formal and informal. There are no real guidelines regarding what is actually required in order to make a blog post considered good. There are so many different outlets for blogs, and different bloggers have different intentions for their writing. If you are in the business of soliciting some form of a direct customer response using your blog, then there are techniques which you may want to employ in order to make that a reality, but you should never feel like you cannot simply post whatever you want in your blog, because blogs are meant to be personal.

In fact, many business-oriented blogs actually include elements which are personal in nature. For example, a business marketer that I am acquainted with has referred to blogs as the human element of business, as he has suggested that these blogging utilities can actually add a much stronger sense of interaction to a website's already existing message on an extremely personal level.

Personally, I tend to agree with this idea, and if you browse through many business blogs you may find that I am not the only one. Much of the content that you will find in personalized business blogs will include product reviews, articles and rants that are geared toward the general interest of the target audience. As soon as you have implemented the software for your blog, al that is left is finding things to post, which is actually the easier part of the entire process.

When it comes to adding blog entries on a weekly basis, the best goal to have is generally at least three blog entries per week, while still adding more content whenever you feel that it is appropriate. There is no harm in posting to your blog often, so use it as an easy format for delivering all types of information, even as the delivery platform for your business newsletter. Even if you are using your web log for a specific purpose, there is no harm with adding extra entries as they come to mind. Another great type of blog entry to post surrounds new trade information which may be picked up in seminars or trade magazines. Sharing information about the industry is a great way to attract all kinds of interested people to your website. As long as the information that you post is new, fresh and informative and relevant in some way to your business while still being offered in an personal way, it does not really matter what you decide to post in your blog.

The more content that you add to your blog, the more likely you will be to attract customers to your web site, because search engines tend to be more interested in websites with a constant stream of fresh and relevant content. Blogs are a great way to provide exactly this sort of content, which will attract hungry search engine spiders, and then interested web browsers and potential customers as well.

There are many uses for a blog in addition to simply using it for an update list or a traditional business newsletter. All you really have to do is to get into the habit of adding new relevant content on a fairly regular basis in order to develop the posting rhythm that you need. Blogging is an extremely easy way to attract new potential customers and to raise your page ranking in many search engines, while simultaneously informing customers and sharing news about the company and the industry. With so many reasons to blog, why aren't you writing now?
