Hello Everyone, I recently started blogging and many of my posts are short and sweet and then I look at other blogs and the posts are crazy long. Does length really matter? ![]() My blog contains my musings. So should I push for longer posts or just push my content? ~Vikki Last edited by Ben; January 14th, 2012 at 03:33 PM.. I've checked on your blog, and indeed, those are short yet sweet stories. Maybe you could expand on those stories a bit further to describe who the monster is or who the characters are like. As many would tell you, it's content quality that matters. You may have a short story, but many won't understand the story (like I did initially) because you did not describe who the characters are and what they actually do. You just give us hints of what they do, which is amazing, though, since it allows us to think what they might do next. Maybe writing a continuous story, instead of chopping up stories in random, could help your blog succeed further. On the other hand, writers could write essays upon essays of stuff that may not necessarily bring together a unifying theme. Unless you're a scientist, researcher, or academe, you might not fully understand their concepts. My best advice: strike for a balance between length, content, and quality. Your content should appeal to a sizable audience, it should have some sense of continuity, and it has to come from your heart. Writing is not about length; it's about breadth. |

Hi Anthony, Thanks. I will keep that in mind. The bedtime story was just a funny little thing to put up there. I really like focusing more on my morbid moments and random facts. |

Yes, I noticed that. What about writing a morbid story then inserting in random facts along with your story? That way. It will sound more complete rather than putting in a funny story in the process.

Hi Vikki - Okay I just went and looked at Morbid Moments ^ I tend to really like a lot of variation to post length. I think that readers want to have some posts they can digest quickly, and others that are long and meaty. I think your variation is very good. Just my two cents, but in terms of post length, I like what you are doing. Your content is looking good! I previously already commented to you that I think your blog is hard to read as white upon black, but that's my eyes growing old ...

I tend to think people prefer blogs on the short side, with some graphics there as well. Paragraphs need to be on the small side too. People are sometimes (much of the time) in a hurry, and shorter blogs can keep interest easier. That's just my opinion though, and what works for me. But then again, there are the great blogs that write a medium-length blog posting and keep me enthralled. I have run across blogs that just ramble on, and I tend to click away from those if I read a couple of paragraphs and realize that if I'm going to finish the long blog, it will take forever. So... I vote for short blog. But as wishfulanthony says, it's the content that can really pique the interest. Be interesting! Write something you personally would like to read. That's my advice. |

I feel if your blog is just for you personally and for people to see what you are up to, then content is more important than length. But, if you want to put an article through say Ezines, then length is important. Google are looking for good articles of around 700 words. jo tempest. I feel it really depends on what your going for, and what you personally consider Good Content. Like Jo tempest, has mentioned that when writing more of a personal blog, you really need to focus in on the style used through out the blog post, and the content it self. When talking in a more professional matter, you will find that length goes a lot farther than others would. Overall, Both sides are appealing to a visit, Content is king and Length supports that king! |

Remember that those posts are just guidelines and suggestions, though. Think about this: Great content makes more readers come back to your blog. Images that relate to your entry may double a visitor's chance to come back for more. No matter how long or short a blog is, what's important is you can connect to your readers with your experiences and ideas. |
