I think I need more clarification for the question.

I think it's becoming hard to be truly "original" or audacious if one will.

Lots has been done but for those who dare, lots left to be found.

haha ya that's vague

It's basically the same ol' question of "Is your idea really new....or has it all been done before when you really think about it?"

I think it's got to do with creativity. This means that no idea of yours needs to be completely new. You could use an existing idea and create new ways of expressing it. To think outside the box, you do yourself a great favour by knowing where the box is and what it looks like at the moment.

In this day and age, it feels like the only "original" things I find on a regular basis are incredibly personal. When you put your own identifiable voice into something, it gives it a unique spin.

I'd say that originality isn't dead, but that creators, and especially publishers, of all kinds are afraid to take the risk of being original. I suspect that they always have been afraid of it, but the further into the past you look, the more the public has selected for the good stuff and made the mediocre stuff disappear. So it looks as if the past had a higher level of originality than it really did.

Plus, with the Internet, it's easier to "publish" (on the web) than it ever was before. So instead of thirty versions of essentially the same thing, you can have ten thousand. But I'd guess that the ease of publishing has led to more original good stuff, as well as more derivative stuff.
