I agree, you shouldn't just write for the sake of making your post longer. I've read posts that are over 1000 words which have been fantastic, though I have to read it in several parts due to time restrictions. On the other hand, jus yesterday I read an amazing post that was only 2 paragraphs long. As long as you remain to the point, you shouldn't worry about how long your post is. |

From a SEO point of view, and getting top rankings on Google, your page should be around 1,100 words That's 1,100 words INCLUDING all the default words on your page before you even write anything - i.e. words in navigation links, etc. So if a blank page on your site has 400 words, then your post should be 700 words |

Personally I would say it depends on your blog and the posts subject, there are times when some of my posts are lucky if they have 100 words in them other times they are like small novels. I used to use an addon called "Odiogo" which changes your post into a podcast so that your readers have the option to listen to your post read out by an automated voice. Thinking about it I should realy get that back on my blog. It does take about 24 hours to have your post converted, once its done you get a little button at the top of your post, when you click it you get a pop down media player which reads your post to your readers. |

I've been varying my lengths. It depends on the type of blog someone has and what kind of posts they are. I have an investing site, and when I post an analysis of a stock, it's generally around 1200 words. Readers expect detail. But then I also write some commentary which is shorter, maybe 500 words. Then some guides I wrote are 700 or so. |

I have to agree with those who believe it depends on your readers. Personally, as the author of a spiritual blog discussing the more serious side of things, it would be ridiculous to attempt to elaborate on topics like quantum physics and religious contradictions in under three paragraphs. It all boils down to attention span, which is relative to your blog topic.

I don't like to make posts that are too long, but do want to cover a topic thoroughly. I first write posts in WordPerfect, edit them repeatedly, usually go through about four drafts, but still end up with a post about four pages long when printed out. The word count feature indicates this is about 1500 words. Hmmnnn... seems like a lot. I might have to break posts up into smaller chunks, with finer focus. |

One friend of mine told me that a post must not be less than 250 words...is that true?
