I had problems writing my first few blog posts because of being absent from writing anything in a long time. Make sure you proofread your blog or ask someone ask to do it for you. After they are done proof reading, do it again!

If I'm reading a blog and there's poor grammar I'll instantly be dissuaded.

Yes a blog with spelling errors shows that the blogger ha not taken their time when they have drafted their post, most CMS` have a spell checker, not using it shows that the author is only interested in getting their post out there on the internet. Mind saying that my spelling is bad.. Sometimes I can forgive bad grammar in other peoples blogs as I like to read a blog that has been written as if the author is actually there, telling me their story. |

It really depends on the type of content and audience. If what you're saying is more important than how you say it to the people reading, you don't have to worry. Just ask yourself what bad grammar will say about you to your readers. For example, with an intellectual blog people are obviously going to assume you aren't educated enough to be speaking about such topics if you can't spell properly. On the other hand, if your blog is all about a LOT of content and your readers are the type of people who love to hear fun rants then they aren't as likely to judge you. Overall it's always a good idea to check your spelling by at least reading over your blog before you publish a post. However, it's up to you and your readers whether or not it's relevant to what you have to say.

I think your blog should be something to be proud of and bad grammar will just detract from that. I'll admit I'm not the best when it comes to adding in commas and apostrophes but I try my best. What does get to me though is the inability of people to distringuish between your/you're and their/they're...that is my pet peeve!

I agree about running it through a spell-checker, (like the one Microsoft Word has) but as everyone knows, a spell checker can sometimes make a mistake. Especially when a word has two different meanings. I think if somebody is really bad at spelling or grammar, they should hire a proofreader or get some help from a friend. Just my two cents. |
