If you were to look for a good movie, music or just general site that reviews things of that nature... what would you look for? We try to review things fairly, I admit that we tend to focus more on movies, but we DO write about music, books, comics and we also try to write original articles as well regarding anything applicable to our genre. We also try to post up quizzes, trivia and such... But what would YOU want to see on a site that you would follow? What would encourage you to comment, participate and come back for more? |

Hmmm in my case, I like rock music, and anything related with paramore-my favorite rock band... I also like taylor swift. With movies, i like adventure ones. Hmmm maybe you should concentrate on those artists , tracks or movies loved by millions ..

Hmmm. A list of recently-reviewed movie titles could be good, assuming that you review current movies. This would be a long-term thing - if people start to value your reviews, then they might drop by the site once in a while to see if you've reviewed a movie that they're considering going to see. And the easier it is to find out whether you have done that review or not, the more likely they would be to make that a habit. Actually, lists of each of the kinds of work that you review could be good. Maybe a link to a "review directory" page. The top could have the "last ten movie reviews", "last ten CD reviews", etc., and then you could provide a full list of every work that you've reviewed further down. And if you have a scoring system, you could note your scores for each one. The list of older reviews might get browsers who are considering what to rent. There's an issue here of completeness - you're not going to be able to review every movie out there. So you could perhaps pick categories that you always review. Your readers could know that if there's a new George Clooney movie, or a new David Mamet movie, or a new musical movie, or whatever category or categories you want to commit to, you _are_ going to review it. Anyway. Random thoughts. |

Concerning movies, I love reviews of comedy movies, because they are the best. But it would be tought to compete on that one, since imdb.com is already good in that area. But concerning music I like hearing not so known artists within indie, funk and reggae music. I would though read a blog reviewing something which is not famous... |

@ChickenFreak - Thank you for the advice... I'm definitely going to use a bunch of things you suggested. I really want to implement a review system where people can check a directory type thing, so ya! Will do! @joe22 - IMDb is good, but the problem with IMDb is that it lets anyone review movies and rate them, so sometimes you get people that are completely biased hitting the ratings just for the sake of making their favourite (or least favourite) movies popular (or un...). Same with the reviews. Sometimes you get really good ones and sometimes you get really crappy ones like 'Moovy was god. i thught it was smrt and v funnie. lol def watch dis moovy or u wil regrt it.' So ya... I DO personally frequent IMDb though. |
