Right. First blog post makes a good impression on what the sites is going to be like. So does anyone have any examples of GOOD first posts from sites that have gone really successful?

Actually, one of the reassuring things about a blog is that the first thing people see is your latest post, not your first post. And few people will see the first one when it's new, because by definition, a blog with just one post has very few readers. So while every post should be good, I wouldn't worry extra about the first one.

(I realize that doesn't respond to your question, but I realized when I read your question that I've never actually seen the first post for most of the blogs that I read.)

I agree with ChickenFreak.

If you want to create an impression post, maybe you should steer towards a static frontpage with a "welcome" post with information about whatever your blog is about or information about yourself to make readers comfortable.

There are MANY ways to create a killer welcome page that is always displayed on the home page. Just Google "static blog pages" and check out some blogs with them to see what I mean.

You can include in your first post what you're going to blog, who are you and why are you blogging. But, the latest post you've made is the valuable thing, since it's the one you're readers will see when they open your blog.

If you take forever to update then your first post is important but if you update frequently then most people never see the first post

My writing style has shifted from my first post. I now write shorter posts and I hope clear posts. Maybe you might want to have an intro post, but once you get readers they will just ignore the intro post.

I completely agree that the first entry is not that important. Especially because it takes a long time for people to start reading your blog on a regular basis. Does anyone know how to make the title/header more exciting so as to attract more viewers? I could use the help!

I would and did go for an overview of waht your blog is going to be about, but like everyone else has already said its not that important as the search engines wont know you exist yet so I wuold`nt worry too much about it.

There are times I look back it my forst post just to see how much my blog has changed from what I origionaly thought it was going to be about.
