This isn't true. You could have a horrible first post, but grow from it, and get better. So actually the more you write, the more better you could be.

I usually just say something cheezy like hello and then tell what the blog is all about.

I agree, the first post is not usually noticed. I try to get 6-7 posts actually up before I even start promoting.

it's not what you post, it's how often you post ... well, for the most part LOL
keywords to target your audience in your posts is also important

what I would do is go to google, put in a search you think people would use to find your site, show options and then on left click wonder wheel ... start posting about what you see for related searches, using those keywords you got in your title and post ... use one result per post.

that will give your visitors what they want

and doing this from post number one will help your traffic flow
