I wondered if it's possible to "throttle" posting to Bloggeries, to slow down spammers? The forums are clearly being spammed today, by someone adding the same post to thread after thread. If the spammer had to wait maybe five minutes between posts, maybe he'd get bored and go spam someone else? For all I know, posting may already be throttled. But I wanted to make the suggestion. |

That might be one possible solution. The problem is that it would do more to irritate legitimate users that in would stop bots. The bots don't care if they have to wait. Humans do though.

^ Pretty much. I'd probably never post if there were a 5 minute throttle.

I know what you mean. And I probably wouldn't post very often if I hit that roadblock. I don't need 5 minutes to respond to many posts and I just wouldn't bother if I had to sit and wait. There are other forums that have a 1 minute posting limit that can actually get annoying (especially when it comes to wanting to edit your own post when you notice a mistake 'right after' publishing....a minute can seem like forever on fast boards, lol).

waiting for that long till you can see your next post is a bit annoying tends user to leave the forum for awhile or so...i post whenever i have something on my mind or if the topics interest me. active moderators wont tolerate the spammers they'll surely do something about it...and if ever they didnt notice a post from a spammer and you think its just a spam..as a user and concern member of the forum, you can do something about it and click report post |

It's clear that this would be an issue for folks, so I withdraw the suggestion. |

I have gotten spammers on my Nontrads Forum. I changed the settings so that I had to OK each new member. Now I want to find another Forum template that can be customized more. I have not seen the spam here. That must be because people are reporting it, and it gets taken off quickly. I know how hard that can be. Thanks for doing that, moderators. |
