What do you do for promotion?

Please share your experiences , what do you do for promoting your blog , also please include , the services tools etc you use for begginer bloggers

Currently I do two things for promotion:

1) Post of forums such as this one.
2) Write really high quality articles that become popular on Reddit style news services and end up getting tons of links and visitors. One of my posts brought in 3000 visitors in one day in this manner.

As for me, I do a lot of on-page and off-page optimization. What concerns the on-page optimization, I try to make visitors find stay on my site longer by clicking various links that lead to other pages of my site. It works.

I've been almost exclusively using twitter for promotion. It helped that I was already known as a Starbucks fan and a coffee head before I even started blogging. So when I started blogging it was really easy to get people to at least peak at my blog because my twitter-online friends were already coffee fans too. It happened sort of naturally.

I definitely could use more ideas on how to promote my blog. I have a small core group of people that I can tell come back over and over again, but it would be nice to figure out how to attract new loyal visitors.

I recently joined this forum to promote my blog.
Facebook is also another great resource for promoting, make a page for your blog and invite ur friends to become fans. Everytime you post something new, add it to the page and your friends will be notified.
Twitter is also a good way to promote.

You can also add the link of your blog to your signature when sending emails.

and another crazy thing I do is make my blog the front page of every computer I can get my hands on at school. :P
