I started a blog 2 weeks ago but due to server issues had to uninstall Wordpress(which obviously removed all the files). Before uninstalling, I saved the 'wp-content', wp-admin', and 'wp-includes' folders as well as the individual posts on my computer . I was wondering if the posts and the comments are retrievable from the 3 folders above(with the original date of posting) or do I need to copy/paste my posts one at a time (and all showing today's date) and are the comments lost forever ?

I think you may have to add them again, but you do have the option of changing the date to put things back in the right order.
Next time you may want to use the export feature then you could have imported your posts right back in one quick sweep. I would look at the import function now just in case you can still make it work.

You should find both Import and Export under the main heading Manage. I used them both to move a Wordpress blog over to another domain and it worked great.

silverz, unfortunately, your posts and comments are not retrievable from those files and folders. Wordpress posts are stored in a SQL database. If you have access to pmpMyAdmin on your hosts' cpanel, you can easily retrieve everything.

You have to backup your MYSQL database as this is where the posts are. You can do this with PHPmyAdmin. Then again you can export all posts via wordpress.
So if you havn't done either I am afraid you have lost all your posts. |
