A cool random post Blogger addon.

I recently programmed a cool Javascript addon for Blogger.

Basically what it does is parse through you blog archive and select a random post. Then it puts a random text link to the post it selected. You can see it in action at the top of my blog:

Just refresh the page a few times and you'll see a variety of random messages about different posts I have done over the past months.

That sounds more complicated by far. You would need to open the pages and pull content out. I may give it a try eventually, but I think that what you want then might be a widget from Engaging and Beautiful Widgets - Wowzio

They have some that pull out pictures as well.

I programmed this script to be lightweight and to load fast, so I just wanted text.

Yeah, I like the text, but it just gets overlooked usually. And I don't want just a picture because my posts are mostly text with just some pictures spread out....it's not a photo blog. I do think I'll try yours out, though...customize some of the intro phrases and make it work for me. It's the closest thing I've come across yet....I'd already given up!

Alright, and now for some troubleshooting. I copied/pasted the code exactly as you had listed....no modifications. Any idea what would be a reason why it would pull up "undefined" where the link should be instead of an archived post?

First thing, could you give me the URL of the blog where you are trying to put the code?

That way I can look at the HTML and see what's going on.

This is the checklist of things that may be wrong:

• Is the blog a Blogger/Blogspot blog?
  
• Do you have a Blog Archive Widget on the page, with archive frequency monthly and archive style heirarchical? (Go to settings on the Archive.)
  
• Is the second code section below the blog archive widget, perhaps at the very bottom of the page?

It's the website in my signature. I use the Blogger platform still, even though I'm on my own domain. And yes, I use the standard Blog Archive widget in monthly and hierarchical format. I put the coding in the exact places you said to on your blog and it simply pulled up "undefined" instead of an actual link.
