Default A "Counter" Question?

In my old age I recently set up a blog. Having posted a couple of Blogs- maybe that is not the correct terminology, but you know what I mean; with nothing happening I decided to add a visitor counter. Two hits were recorded in quick time but nothing thereafter. I'm wondering should the "counter" record my own visit to the blog.
As this is my first visit to the forum and with a few weeks as a blogger I hope you veterans will forgive any stupidity on my part.

Unless you have set it up to block your own IP address counters will include you as a unique visitor on your blogs.

Some counters, like statcounter, will allow you to block certain IP adresses so that they're not counted. I think google analytics does this too, but I haven't tried.

It will only count you once per day. The biggest damage is in page views. If I'm REALLY active; tones of page views that aren't from the other viewers.

No! It is working - it has just counted my third visit in over a week.
Thank you kindly

if what you concern is traffic then you can add counter after you gain traffic.you can try really small step with twitter update, buzz your site with twitter update.once you do that add counter and see what happen

I'm using a counter from statcounter that doesn't count my IP (Maybe cuz I'm signed in?)

I dunno, to be honest I think my counter is a bit screwed up

What is the purpose of the counter? Is it for showing off?
