There really isn't a satisfactory one, not that I've been able to find: the problem isn't with the plugins, though - it's the limitations of computer translation enginges. You might more-or-less squeak by with Google or Babelfish translations between the Latinate languages (French, Italian, Spanish) and English, if your writing is very formal (no slang or idioms). The only good free plugins I've used in the past are not supported for WP 2.5, but I've heard of another (paid) translation plugin that's supposed to be pretty good - can try to track down the name of it, if you're interested. I seem to recall the price was about $25 or so, but would have to check on that.

Here is the link to the one that we use on our site called Angsuman's Translater Plugin. It cost $30 and can be used on a variety of platforms in cluding Word Press (which is what I use). Taragana | Translator Plugin Pro After you contact him and pay him you will receive some time the next day or two a URL link custom for your site. How well does it work? I don't speak any foreign language myself except for French and the French translation seems pretty good, n'est pas? I have been on other forums where I was introduced to this one and they like it. A few things:
If you want to see it in live action, yes you can see it on my web site. And, I won't even tell you how to get the page to be in different languages. I'll let you see if you can figure that out for your self to see how your site's visitor's would figure it out. (but if you can't just ping me and I'll tell you) Dan

Okay, I was off by 5 bucks - it's not $30 instead of $25: Taragana | Translator Plugin Pro This isn't a recommendation, mind you - I haven't used this plugin myself, just remembered a discussion about it. The blogger who bought the plugin back in January was giving it a good report in March, and I see she still has translation enabled on her blog (Lighthouse News) as of this date - so that's a good sign. Hope this helps! edited to add: Ha! speedy Dan snuck in here ahead of me, while I was still looking for the link... but there, you've got your firsthand feedback!

Yeh, a lot of people are looking. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a good free one out there right now -- not that works since WordPress 2.5 came out, anyway.
