How much is too much?

Widgets can be really cool additions to your blog but how many visible widgets do you guys think is too much? I have seen blogs that hurt the eyes because of all the clutter on the side bars.

I can't toss out a specific number because it really depends on the blog, the layout, which widgets, etc......but once it starts looking cluttered or you can't focus on the content because of all the widgets, I think it's too much...

i use widgets only if they are helpfull.because extra widgets make your website heavy and they get hard to load.

i use a chat box in my website so people can entract with each other on the website.and the other one is translator widget which i use sometimes.

I have kept mine to a minimum. It's easy to get excited and add loads, iv'e seen some real horrors! But just keep them relevent and all will be ok...

Depends on load time and how much space you have in your theme. A 3 column blog should theoretically be able to hold more widgets without over powering then say a 2 column one... Use your judgment and can always ask once you try some out.

I don't use too many widgets. It makes your blog load slowly.

My thoughts: Guide the visitors where you want them to go, if there are widgets and flashy ads or what not everywhere, then they won't see what you want them to see.

I couldn't say it better myself! If you site is loading slow then you have to many! I mean I can't stand visiting sites that are still loading when I'm done reading! Either get rid of some widgets or upgrade your hosting account!

But when you have more widgets than site content then that's a problem.

Especially those blogs that fill 100% of available space with ads / widgets before ever making their first post.
