Remember that the ultimate goal is to drive real human traffic to your site. And to most readers it doesn't matter if it is a dofollow or a nofollow, a link is a link.

| Well said. I spend all day worrying about do follow / no follow (my job is SEO) but this post was a big reality check.

People put a lot of emphasis on building do-follow links though, because so many sites get the majority of their traffic from Google searches. A link is a link, but some links are better than others!

rel="nofollow" You don't need a "dofollow" tag on a link to make it dofollow, and in fact I'm pretty sure that that tag has no function. I'm hoping that Google will soon start downgrading dofollow links on comments and similar types of user-generated content. Comments should not be dofollow, IMO. |

BTW, if the original poster is asking if _his own_ site should be dofollow, which usually means that comments on the blog lack the nofollow tag... I'd say, no, don't do that. Yes, eliminating the nofollow tag might attract lots and lots of spam commenters, but the problem with that is that it attracts lots and lots of spam commenters! Spam comments look like spam comments. They will not convince visitors to your blog that you have lots of real readers. |

It would be nice to rank highly in a Google search but, the truth is, my blog is so obscure I don't waste time worrying about my blog's ranking in the SERPs. I am sure it is so far back as to be meaningless. Most of my traffic comes from people who know about it, from the one or two sites that link to it, or from my posting in forums. That's it. I am getting traffic from human surfers, none from the search engines. So the do-follow/no-follow debate is irrelevant to me. |

well I must say real story about dofollow and nofollow is mystery as I discussed with many people about this, few are saying nofollow are useless but just to show normal go for few of them but some people are saying Google don't ignore nofollow at all it do have its worth as well.
