Default Working with twenty 10 theme

I restarted my old blog and I've been pretty happy with Wordpress and I like the twenty ten theme.
There is a black bar under the image banner that has the button selections Home and About I would like to add some other selections such as subscription feeds and email address.
Any one have any sugestions?

Hey,

You can add additional items to this bar under the Appearance > Menus section in Wordpress. Select a link, page or category and hit the "add to menu" button. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

I just realized that I had to create a new menu and then select it.. I was trying to edit the default and it wouldn't allow me to
Thanks for the help.. I was just trying to guess my way through this.

You can do way better than that theme ... seriously. That theme is there for a reason, its no frills, basic, and featureless. Which means a lot of blogs are gonna be using it and a lot of dead blogs died with it. Seriously consider changing it.

In the meantime, go to Appearance --> Menus and you will get a section that you can use to add custom links to the nav bar. You can also add specific categories to the nav bar. You can link to your RSS feed and subscription links from this area as well.

bkpkgene, You might be right, but after working with blogger for so long I'm just learning WP. I'm not jumping into themes to fast. I did get the favicon thing working, aparently WP for some reason trashed my old on into o byte record. I need to make a new one I guess, but for the time time being I am using an eyeball thing. The Menuing is working. I changed the default image I Think it working pretty good. I run a pure blog, an occasional image, I like the single column on the right, and the general general color scheme, So far I haven't really stumbled on another blog that uses twenty-ten, but then again I usually visit blogs that are pretty well established. If I happen to stumble across a theme that I like better I would probably upgrade. So far I haven't seen anything, but I haven't looked very hard.

I don't think I'm allowed to post my urlyet, but if want to see what it looks like check out libertysblog dot com. maybe you have some ideas on a theme that will work out better.
Thanks

No problem liberty. I agree on the default image - nice change and it looks good. If I had one suggestion, it might be to limit the number of posts you have on your front page. You're showing the entire article, so maybe cut the number down to 5 or so. Or, better yet, you can use the MORE feature when you post to tell WP to break to a new page. This will prevent your audience from having to scroll one long page. Looks like your post size is pretty good word wise, you can probably set it at about 150 words and be ok.

If you need help or support on anything, shout out. I'm happy to help a fellow blogger. Keep up the good work, you're on your way.

Thanks, I have gotten wordy and my postings have got longer than I expected them too, I think I'm going to cut the number of post into something more reasonable. I have struggled with using more because I never quite know where to cut, and I do use a lot of quotes. I would like to start posting with more images so load time will start to suffer If I don't make more effort to limit the page size.

I'm not all that happy with the banner image and want to eventually put a collage up with different images of Galveston. My point with the twenty - Ten theme though is that although its pretty basic, it is also very flexible even for a novice. Maybe someday, I'll update the theme to something else, but for now it seems to work.

Hey Liberty ... I am sure you have noticed this, but I will remind you. As you are posting, at the bottom of the box is a handy item that says Word Count. You can monitor your post length as you write and do your MORE and breaks as you wish. Just an idea.

Don't be overly harsh on yourself. As you continue forward you'll find what does and doesn't work for you.

You must be doing something right Liberty, you've got a great Page Rank of 4 - well done!

I've been customising TwentyTen for a few months now, and I agree with you, it's a good theme to mess about with. I'm too new to post urls as well, but Google information junkies and you'll find one of my sites - mine has anonymous tacked on the end

If you ever want a hand with your theme do give me a shout.

Yes, this is correct. The categories should appear in this area.
