Default Making Your WordPress Blog Mobile / SmartPhone Ready

Since I got my new HTC Droid Eris, I have been comparing two different plugins to make my WordPress sites more mobile friendly – WordPress Mobile Pack and WPtouch iPhone Theme. Both get the job done effectively – it is just a matter of whether you are looking for something simple or something with a lot of features.

Plugin Comparison Summary

I would say for those looking to get the most out of their mobile blogging experience, WPtouch iPhone Theme is the way to go. The downside of this plugin is that the advanced features may be too advanced for some phones that are not iPhones, Androids, Blackberrys, and so on. My previous phone, for example, had a full screen Internet browser, but I was never able to get into my site, front or administrative side. The safer plugin to go with for older devices would definitely be the WordPress Mobile Pack.

Why Should You Go Mobile

Even if you don’t have a smartphone, consider visitors who might be browsing the web and find a link to your site, either off of another blog, in an email, or through their RSS subscriptions. This applies even to regular websites built in WordPress – the pages can be converted into the mobile themes too, so your WordPress as CMS site could benefit as well. These plugins make it easy to make your WordPress site mobile ready.

Plugin Features & Screenshots

Learn more about the features for both plugins, and see some screenshots of how WordPress sites look to visitors from iPhones, Droids, etc.
