Today, I got at least 4 notifications that contained spam. Some were just blind link attempts while some were totally unrelated crap. ![]() Obviously, bots seems to be working hard here for spammers. Admins, please find a solution to all this. While moderators are really fast, the notificatiosn still cause lot of irritation! Please see if anything can be done!

Most of the spam appears to come from people who sign up and post it manually. Sometimes there are patterns and we can block several spammers in one go, but a lot of the spam comes from accounts with different IP addresses, usernames, email addresses and links. In this situation, there is very little we can do to stop them signing up and posting without also blocking legitimate users from signing up and posting. We are actively removing spam posts and banning spammers as soon as we can. We have made significant progress over the last few months. Unfortunately, the spammers learn and adapt accordingly. Please bear with us as spam does still get into the system, and report any spam you find. We always act on spam reports and most spam is removed long before most users see it. Finally, if you already check into the forum regularly, then there is very little reason to subscribe to every thread you reply to. Some time ago the thread subscription option was enabled by default for all new signups, and we had hundreds of bounced emails from users with invalid email accounts. We have since disabled thread subscriptions for new users - you can still turn it on if you want to, but I'd recommend disabling it unless you really want it. If you still want to use it, please understand that we cannot fully prevent every spam post. |

I like the forum notifications through email. With Outlook Express, I just skim through and ignore the emails with the spam. Some really bad spam mails though, get sent to my junk email section. Even though I don't like that much spam, I just ignore it.

I don't think it is a big problem. Indian people will do Indian things and a few spam emails aren't exactly destroying any quality of living. I, personally, haven't recieved any so what have gone out doesn't seem to be affecting a large amount of people.

| Clearly Young subscribes to the all to common belief that people from the Indian subcontinent are the source of all the spam and attacks on the web. Although there are certainly a large majority of spam attacks apparently originating from this region of the world, it is incorrect to blame all Indians for spam. I'm glad that Bloggeries doesn't block Indian IP addresses as does at least one other major blogging forum I've found.
