I have been a member of Twitter almost from the beginning. I really hated using the site to update and read updates, etc. Today, there are many apps available for your browser, phone, etc. My question is, what good would Twitter be without them? Did Twitter only grow with the creation of these applications? I still see people update through the website, but most have an application installed. Do you think it would be as popular if you could only update/read updates via the web?

I am probably the exception I know... I exclusively use the web .I'm just not a big fan of apps and I like to just hit refresh when I'm in the mood. That being said I'm tempted to try TweetDeck. What are you using John and great topic!

I think that having the various apps have helped grow Twitter. I know that I use TwitterFox and TwitterBerry. I only check the web when I want to make setting adjustments. Being able to update Twitter on the go has also probably made Twitter more popular/accessible.

Thanks, Rob, I finally decided I would use some of my free time to create a discussion instead of lurking around the ones already started. I use Twhirl and I like it a lot. With my dual monitor setup I can keep that and running while I am around other places online. That is the only one that I have tried, because I am not a fan of fixing something that isn't broke.

I think that Twitter wouldn't be the same without mobile apps, because people could only tweet from their computers. People want to go wireless and be able to access the internet from anywhere, so mobile applications are an absolute must.

The majority of people I follow use a Twitter app and the web mixed. I haven't tweeted on anything else but Twitteriffic (iPod + Mac) for god knows how long. I think Twitter would be fine without the apps though.

I read that there comcast score of over 3 million users a month is really much smaller then total as a large percentage are only mobile. I tried Twhirl and I did like it. That was in ~April / May. Forgot about twitter for a while and never bothered to try one again. Once I eventually do a needed reformat I'll be sure to try them. I have an older flip phone and pay per internet usage. If you hook twitter up to your cell does it charge it as internet usage or text messaging?
