I use Twitter a lot. I post daily, and when I can't, I post ahead with HootSuite. I also use Twellow, the Twitter Yellow pages, to follow people. Many people will follow you in return.

You can add only so many people each day, but that is how to get your first followers. Just add people you think will be interesting, and that helps. Another bit of advice is to NOT use auto-following programs. You will wind up with some people you definitely don't want, and will have to remove them one by one, by hand. This is not worth it.

Good luck! I have two Twitter accounts and I find these do help me with traffic AND help me to find websites and blogs that are interesting and useful to me.

I use Hoot Suite for all my twitter accounts. They have a built in tracking system and a URL shortner. Works wonders! It shows you:

• Your Feed
• @mention
• Direct Messages
• Pending Tweets
• Sent Tweets

Like I said above you can schedule tweets too!

As for gaining followers, I use Fast Followers its pretty simply but works great.

I will be looking at Twitterfeed and Twhirl. Right now I am using HootSuite (the free version.)

I like to add followers from Twellow (The Twitter Yellow Pages) or and post about things or sites that interest me, or comment on something happening at the moment. I do schedule my tweets ahead of time and try to change them up too.
