Default Digg: general or specific?

I've noticed that some blogs have a general "digg this" button for the entire blog. Other sites, meanwhile, have a separate "digg this" option for each post. Obviously, the total digg count will be much higher if you use the entire blog instead of individual posts... is this a better strategy?

I'd say if you digg an entire blog it's too general and people will find stuff they don't think is digg worthy. The best digg would be something uber specific and preferably tech related. I'd put them on the individual bloggeries instead of the blog as a whole.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing right now. I guess I'll continue to do it that way.

I see it working better as a dig for individual posts rather than just a whole blog in general unless it is a very unique blog in itself.

I agree with Bloggeries, I wouldn't want to submit an entire blog to Digg. That would be too general. I would submit a particular post to Digg.

Agree with above. Are you having any success with Digg? That community is whack most of the time so I am just wondering.

Digging posts is definitely more effective, no doubt in my mind. There's a reason all of the "hot stories" or whatever they call them on digg.com are individual posts. Nobody is going to go to a Digg.com voluntarily that isn't something specific they are searching for. Definitely no BAD to have your site dugg, but go for the individual posts to rack up on traffic

Default I agree with making it specific

Having the Digg this button separate for posts is likely the best way since most Digg links tend to be individual posts/stories. On other sites like Delicious, I've noticed a lot more people linking to specific posts as well as the site as a whole (since the nature of the site is a little different). I'd agree with the general consensus in the posts above about having it on invididual posts.

Of course, in the Web 2.0 world, there are no hard and fast rules...

Default Re: Digg: general or specific?

Digg was working great for my Shopping4Coupons site until it got banned.

Well, now I know I wasn't supposed to Digg All of my posts.

I have been using it more judiciously recently and making sure I don't just dig my own stuff but also make sure I include other blogs that are topic related.
