Like would you get traffic to your blog if you linked your blog on Facebook and created a page, even if you had no friends on FB. I'm asking this because I don't want to use my current FB account to advertise my blog, because I don't want everyone I know to be looking at my blog :/ Some people are just mean and I just want my privacy with people I know. I'm ok with strangers looking at my blog, but I need an FB account to be successful, right? If I created a brand new one, would I need to add people to generate traffic from Facebook to my blog? Would I need to add random people? Or is it ok to just have no friends on it? |

My personal opinion is, you should have considerable number of friends to promote your content. But I am not saying you will fail if you don't have friends. It is not impossible.

I'd always recommend creating a Facebook and Twitter page for your site, forum, blog or product. People will receive updates on your service through either of those social media sites even if they don't visit your site daily. I haven't told any of my personal Facebook friends about my blog, so all my likes are random users.

You can make new friends on Facebook - - by liking their fan pages and having a conversation. You can request to be friends and see who will do that. Make a fun or fascinating profile and have it be public. This could help. A great (and true!) photo will also help, I think. You can also request acquaintances to be Facebook friends. You can share as much or as little as you like with your new friends too. Good luck! |

I highly recommend adding a facebook page for your blog. It's great because it gives your readers one more way to keep up with your latest blog posts. I love having one, and wish I'd added mine earlier. And like almost everything about your blog, it's content driven. I really do not have very many facebook friends, but a small sizeable number of people "like" my blog -I'm not sure who they all are, but I'm thankful. Your facebook page for your blog can be a fabulous tool! People will click "like" through the widget on your blog's home page (see my page if you want to see how I've added the fb widget???)

I haven't thought of that idea, Melody. I'll consider putting a separate FB page for my blog (although I already have quite a large number of Facebook friends anyway) so that I can have a bigger reach.

My main blog has a FB page although don't have many FB friends under my real name and I write fairly anonymously so I don't publicise it under my real name although I do allow the FB page to publish to my profile. I've registered the blog with the FB ap Networked Blogs which has generated quite a few hits and followers for me despite the anonymity so has definitely been worth doing. |

I agree you can use facebook to get friends. I find the best way to do this would be to make up a page for your blog and start to interact with the facebook community as your page.

It's also great for social proof. If you have friends who can like your page you already start out ahead because people will be more willing to become a fan if you already have X amount of fans. If you don't you can probably still do it. But it will be a little hard to get those first few followers, after all, nobody wants to be the first to become a "fan" unless they are already mad about you. |
