I understand how twitter works and what not. But people that have like 500+ followers, are they realy interacting with their followers? I doubt it..

I only noticed an increase in my followers by randomly following people in my niche(hoping they'll follow me back)... That seems to be the only way to get that many followers..I dk

question is: if you have sth like 1000 followers, and you follow similar amount, do you really read what they tweet? I know I don't

Follower counts certainly aren't to be trusted on their own. A lot of people use automated tools to follow mass amounts of people who meet specific criteria. When I'm sizing up another user, I instead look to see how many times they've been listed by others and how many people they are engaging with in the form of @ replies and RTs. And if I see anything like #teamfollowback, I'm wary.
