So over the past weeks I have been submitting my posts to reddit and the first few were fine. I submit maybe 1 post every few days but now for the past couple of days its saying Ive submitted too much please try again in an hour. I'm logged in and everything. What could be the issue here? Do they just not allow site owners to post their own content?

Nah, you can post your own content. I mean, it's not like reddit can know if you're the site's owner or anything. I've been receiving the same problem, though. I haven't posted in weeks.

I have had the occasional burst of traffic from reddit but only when someone else has shared some of my content, never when I have added it - i don't understand the site which is a problem but it can deliver results

It may happens sometimes, i read there is also trouble with the traffic sometimes. One of my friend couldn't add a new article eventhough he hadn't post in weeks , and when he tried around 2 am it finally worked ..

Reddit is my best traffic mover as far as social media is concerned. I'm also a two time user so maybe I learned about which boards are good for what. I usually post on r/zenhabits, r/selfhelp, r/productivity, r/psychology (make sure its actually based by scientific research)...sometimes r/freethought or r/philosophy. There are a lot of avenues for traffic, and you can post on multiple boards. It certainly beats Digg by a long-shot.
