Hey guys so I have a problem with my twitter - I don't know how I should run it! I have my posts made on my blog feeding into my twitter but I'm not sure if I should post non-blog related things on there. Should I treat it a bit more personal so followers get a better feel for who I am as a person? My blog deals with internet memes and pokemon so should I just post things on my twitter regarding that? Any tips or ideas, please share! |

It's called "Social" Media for a reason. If you're just using it to "broadcast" links you're going to get very little out of it. Twitter really is very hard work. Read the blog post on twitter is like a cocktail party in this forum. If you have no interest in really connecting with people, you'll struggle. You might get followers, but getting really engaged followers who like your links and click through to your blog will be much harder. It's just like anything else in life: You gotta give a little to get. Be a friend to people and give. Reply to people. USE your "@" button. Reply. Engage. Make friends first. Never set up autoDMs. You'll piss a lot of people off. They only come off as spammy. I saw an article today that said that the most influential people on twitter had small followers in a highly engaged niche. I was surprised by the article but it said that people like Tom Cruise weren't really that influential on twitter. Not sure if I believe it, but fundamentally, earning trust within a small group will give you a return on your time investment.
