Default Fake testimonials on Facebook!

The 'friends finder box' shows you and your friends as having used it - even if you have not! It seems dishonest to make such a claim... What do you think?

Has anyone else noticed this? It sort of bugs me... It's tantamount to fake testimonials in my opinion.

I have not used 'friend finder'. So stop telling my friends I have! | Facebook

You think they'd be a bit more careful given all the issues they've had with privacy of late.

And yet people continue to use social platforms that are insecure, give your personal info away like candy in the name of advertisers, and provide access to data via API's that have been shown to be easily exploitable.

And yet, once more, people can't live without their Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.

I'll take half a dozen honest, true friends that I interact with on a daily basis over 2,387 'friends' that I have no clue about.

We all know the effectiveness of these medias and so it is hard to stop using them. But they are not perfect and their sites are always targeted for hacking. So the best that we can do is just to play safe and not leave any of our personal informations there. Otherwise we are just making ourselves prey for lots of possible things such as identity theft.

We've got everything to gain from these medias since it is free. We can fully use it to our advantage, so I think these minor glitches are alright for now. Just my 2 cents.

I didn't know those ads could be fake. Thanks for letting us know. And I should tell anyone who is on Facebook, that they can fill out privacy settings for each friend and group they are in.

These links at the BGAMUG site can help. They are YouTube videos that will show you step by step how to set up your privacy settings there:

True, but Allan has a point. It's a strange and sort of abusing way to make use of your image. The more secure, the more effective social platforms are (at least in theory).

I don't know why they do that on Facebook, but I imagin it's done pretty much on all social sites like that. I know my hubby has an account that he doesn't even use and it tells me all the time that he has new friends, is playing games, and using friend finder. The thing is the kids and I are on the computer so much that he doesn't get on it at all, and he really doesn't have much use for Facebook. He signed up on it because a friend of his was talking to him through me and then he decided not to use it after the initial contact was made. Unless he uses a computer else where, but I doubt that he doesn't really know how.

Have you ever searched your own name on facebook? You'd be amazed how many people have the same name. I was showing my brother how to use facebook and setting up an account for him. I didn't really think that there would be all that many people with my name and typed it in so he could add me as a friend. Well almost 100 other people have my same name and when I refined the search to my location, there was no result. Does that mean I don't exist? Later that day I typed in my brothers name and got 370 results, but none of them were him!! I think Facebook is rather messed up!!

NascarCrazee88,

I have a pretty unique name, although there is a woman with the exact same name as I on Facebook... 8-)

But if you have nothing else to do, click here:

Alexis Wilke - Google Search

And... yeah... the first 8 pages are all about me... also some links go to weird websites. 8-) And the related at the bottom of the first page, all me too.

Btw, yes... Facebook is not the only search engine that doesn't work. Cuil close their door last month and most social networks I use do not find anything correct except one... LinkedIn. Which funnily enough is the first entry in Google when I search with my name:

Alexis Wilke - LinkedIn

I like to search my own name, I guess. 8-)
