Lightbulb Google Wave - anyone using it yet?

Hello all

I just got my Google wave invite the other day and have had a quick look over the site.

Are any of you guys on yet? if so what do you think?

Is there good potential for promoting our blogs? and/or increasing revenue?

I'd be interested to hear what your opinions are

Thanks
Andy

It might be used as a promotion tool. Think of it more as an email / chat program though.

Technically you can start a public wave for promotion purposes but it probably won't be very popular, and if you start spamming other public waves with your URL you'll probably be kicked out.

So think of it in promotion purposes kind of like this forum. You can leave an occasional link as long as your contribute quality to the forum. The same goes for Google Wave.

I believe Google Wave is primarily conceived of as a collaboration tool - and that's certainly my impression, though I've only been using it for a few weeks. It's much like a blend of text-based chat and email, with the ability to embed various media and widgets. So yes, I suppose there's potential for promotion - but more the way you build an email list and promote by opt-in, not a broadcast-advertising type of model. How does that jive with your impressions?

I've used it by finding relevant conversations, adding my voice, and then after a while unobtrusively mentioning that I was running a sociology survey on social network usage. I've received a few survey submissions from this technique.

But only use it on relevant conversations. I did this on a sociology wave where we were talking about different sociological methods and surveys.

definitely sounds like it has its uses then.

maybe when the library of widgets available expands there will be more scope for using it as a tool. who knows what the developers are working on.

The Google Wave concept of widgets includes the robot, a computer bot which surfs the waves modifying data. For example, if you put in a stock market symbol it can turn that into data. There are dice rolling robots for wave based RPGs, there are spelling correction robots. Its pretty fascinating.

#Nathan - have you watched the one hour promo video for wave? I'm stuck in the wilds of Africa on a slow net connection!
