This has been true for me. Posting a link to my latest blog entry doesn't usually yield any new followers, but posting about question or a statement of some some value typically does.

Of course, I'm sure it also just depends on who is reading at the time you tweet.

I went to the Blogger Yellow Pages at Twellow.com and found many great people. They have a great directory there where you can search by your interest to find great Tweeple to follow. Many will follow you back. You can click on people you find interesting.

Then you keep adding until they won't let you add anymore per day (100). Do NOT use an auto-follow program. I tried that once but then I had to manually take off all the spam followers. It took a long time.

When you get a lot of followers, there is an easy way to keep up with people you want to keep up with. You can use the Favorite button OR you can use Tweetdeck. I don't personally use Tweetdeck a lot, but others really like it.

Then try to post at least 3 times per day, RT'ing others, using quotes, or showing people neat websites or links. Don't try to only sell to them or spam. Then people will really like you and want to add you to their Twitter too.

Follow as many tweeple as you can, and most will follow you back (if you just want to build the numbers)

Twitter is all about interacting though, I would never suggest building an account just for high follower numbers.

For example, I would rather have 1,000 followers that I chat with every week, and that retweet my stuff, vs 10,000 followers who never read my post.

try searching stuff on youtube, it usually has some good how-to videos

If you want to try our software called "Tweet Whistle" you can download a free trial version from TweetWhistle dot com You can search for targetted users, follow them and about 50% follow you back. Also if you have less than 1000 followers then you can get about 300-500 new followers per day.
