I admit it! I submit my blog articles to a few Social Media sites. And I like it! Maybe someday my blog might get more popular that others will do it. But I feel beginning bloggers sometimes can't wait for others to Digg, or vote up, or whatever your articles. I did make the mistakes of over submitting my articles at one place and realized my error. Maybe it makes me feel better but I try for every one article from my blog I submit I submit two blogs or articles from other people. So I guess I am asking is it really all that bad to do this?

It isn't a matter of being ethically wrong, it is a matter of not being effective. If you submit your own stuff on Digg, no one else will probably Digg it because it is just self promotion, not interesting. If you stumble your site over and over, your votes will become worthless eventually. The only way these things work are if you have something genuinely interesting that has a groundswell of support. You can't fake that, and self promotion only hurts. |

How would somebody know if you were the one that submitted the post to Digg? |

You should take some time to learn how Digg really works. Unless you are really active on Digg and have a lot of friends, submitting a story will do nothing. The hallmark of someone who submits their own stuff is a story with only 1 Digg, on a blog no one has ever heard of, by someone who has no history of Digging anything. With StumbleUpon it isn't a matter of knowing what your site is. You can get the same diminishing returns by submitting any site over and over. I have people on SU who ask me for stumbles. They only ever ask for the same site over and over. It is obvious who's site it is. Half of all stories on Digg that make the front page are from 50 domains, most of which are big media outlets. Most of the stories that make the front page are submitted by the small group of people, almost all of whom are friends with each other. The odds are working against you. Big time. Trying to get traffic from Digg is a waste of time for most bloggers. StumbleUpon and Reddit are much better for getting moderate amounts of traffic. It isn't hard. Get some friends on SU and ask them to stumble for you. Don't try to get Stumble traffic on every single thing you post. Just save it for the best stuff, else you'll get voted down which can hurt you. |

On my first Blog years ago I submitted a few articles to Digg and promptly got banned. How are you getting away with it? I have submitted a half dozen or so of my own stuff to Stumble but its fractional on how much else Ive done with SU. Unfortunately Im no good at the "make deals with friends" thing. |

Digg vs Stumble Upon is a long debated subject. However, by knowing respectively on how it works around the web will give you ideas on how to work on the posting strategy. It's always better to be generous and submit others rather than your own posts. I came across this post on comparing Digg & SU and I think it had made some relevant points, worth a look for beginners.

Digg has a bunch of powerusers that submit stories regularly. One such is "MrBabyMan".What a poweruser will do is take someone elses story/pic and reupload it as their own. It will be a guaranteed Top 10 on the front page.
