I used to enjoy using stumbleupon and did stumble other sites quite frequently but then without warning they froze my account.

Yes, I believe SU is very effective. At least I get a lot of referrals from SU alone.

Been on stumbleupon for a couple of years. It can indeed help your blog. I got a few of my posts stumbled and got tons of traffic. But it seems to not last for very long. Still it's a great way to get exposure. Be careful and don't stumble your own stuff too often. You'll get in trouble by the stumble police. Once in a while is fine but what you really want is someone who is a su poweruser to stumble your site or blog post. That's where you'll get the big traffic. Consider maybe working a stumble this button into your blogposts. Not nessasary but helpful.

Focus on building up your stumble profile with interesting things first and then work in a post of yours here and there. Only use your best stuff. Other stumblers will give it a and that's what you need.

All of the traffic that I get from stumble has around a 85%- 95% bounce rate. sure it will bring you some traffic, but its going to bounce right back to stumble. That kind of traffic does not do your site any good. You want targeted traffic that will stay around for a little while.

StumbleUpon is the only social media tat gives me some traffic. Not a lot (I get like few thousand hits per month), but still a lot more than I ever got from digg or mixx.
Also it really affects the alexa rank. I got 800 hits from SU and bang I was in top 100k websites in Alexa.

Also use su.pr. It may help in promoting SU.
