One thing that is kinda weird though is how Twitter has handpicked ~100-200 accounts it suggests to all new users to signup. 20 of those accounts are suggested you click "ok" or something and boom you are following them. It's a good idea to get people going but it artificially creates power users on the system.

It's mainly just celebrities who already have tones of exposure on their own right. It's like they kinda forgot about the 'little people' who made twitter and supported it. Without them it would of never gotten mainstream.

My opinion, it could be a good 'suggestion' list for some users. However, I agree on the 'artificially-created power users' consequences. So in the end, the popular ones will get more famous.. I wonder does anybody give credits to those who's struggle to provide informative resources to all? I think a page should be set up to appreciate some others who's worth the credit as well, definitely more than just 200 people.

Yet again, massive efforts, we know. Hopefully they'll get the attention they deserved eventually.

I just think there should be a system where twitter crawls all users and before someone signs up it asks them to enter 5 interests. Then it crawls userbase to match / suggest ~20 users who best fit that criteria. That is fair to all

I agree with that. Just suggesting celebrities that I don't care about to me is stupid. I couldn't care less what Brooke Burke is doing. And yeah, she's actually one of the ones the recommend. I don't care!!
