DIGG, do you digg it?

What are your thoughts on digg? i have an account but whats the point in digging something?

i want diggnation on revision three so i guess keeping that running is an incentive but apart from that, why should i digg?

Digg is basically an aggregator powered by users. The online community decides what posts make it to the front page or the top 10 by "digging" it.

If you like it.. you dig it.

It's also used as a tool for people to promote their sites. So let's say you want people to know about your site.. joewatt.tk.. You would submit that site to digg but of course its up to the users to digg it to the top.

If you do have content worthy to digg users, you'll get a large amount of traffic which some call the "digg effect" which basically brings down your site because your hosting options are not ready for a large amount of bandwidth.

but that wont work at first wont you have to promote a page on digg to get people to digg it?

I do not really like digg. just never got into that idea of promoting a site, but some people use it a lot.

You need users with digg accounts to help you promote on digg. I think the digg method is just for getting unreliable hits. You have to try and convert most of those readers.

digg used to be good but it's gamed so easily that, unless you have hours every day to invest in it, you'll never see your story on the homepage. I recommend visiting niche digg-like sites instead

I normally just browse through the videos section, if something has a couple of thousand "diggs", it's generally well worth watching

Or instead of trying to game Digg, you can just write really compelling content. Digg users tend to vote up stuff that's entertaining or tech related, really anything that's interesting.
