You're off to a good start.

The only thing I can suggest, and I say this to a lot of blogs, is to break up the posts so that you can fit more on the opening page. In wordpress there is a button when you write the posts that puts a "see more" type of thing into the post. As a result you have smaller posts on the home page, each with a link to the full post.

I just did a quick post about her blog. It's nothing fancy, but once she gets more on there and it bulks up a bit, I'll revisit the topic and give a more thorough post about the issues and how her blog contributes to helping the causes. I wanted to possibly send a few visitors her way now to check it out, though. Hope she keeps it up and continues adding to it.

Great site and great cause. I love animals they are so cute and kind souls. I can't stand seeing animal cruelty. You should also put up a paypal donation button or links to where you can donate to your favorite charities.

Expense List for caring for unwanted and mistreated animals. This may help to put some figures out there, it may drive donations as you see 13.00 will buy a bag of food!
You could structure something under the paypal button for some of those dollar amounts.

Looking at competitors I saw that list, good idea that people realize how much it costs to run those shelters. I'll work on setting up a Paypal donation button. All of the companies I have listed there I'm an affiliate of so if anyone buys anything from that site I'll donate whatever we happen to make. so far nothing has come in but the future it hopeful. Thanks for the kind words, advice and traffic.
