Hi Emma,

Very nice blog in regards to content and appearance. It's very classy looking yet easy to navigate. Congrats on getting on the front page of delicious that must of brought considerable traffic.

You should get your own domain sooner than later; you have a great blog I"m assuming readership so why not make the leap?

Thank you very much for your words.

I have thought in buying a pack of domain names. But what are the pro and cons of having a domain name? Will I loose my Alexa or PageRank of my site, or the links that other people have placed to my blog? Or they remain even if I have a domain name?

You can forward all the pages to your new domain so it's better to start earlier than later if you plan on doing it. Zhuli who is a moderator recently did it and has helped others get started.

Pros ; Wow you own your content, WAY MORE power to change the themes and appearance of your blog (you did a good job on blogger). Also way more widgets, possible themes as mentioned. If you pick a keyword rich domain it can help in search engine rankings. Thats it off the top of my head there are many more though.

Cons: $10 a year for a domain and ~3$ a month web hosting. http://www.godaddy.com - Hawk Host - Shared, Reseller and Dedicated Web Hosting

You already rank well for your name on google under the current one and since it's not a money making blog and just a cultural blog you probably could just leave it. I do know advertisers are more hesitant on a blogspot then a domain. Either way I'd just keep blogging as you are doing a fantastic job.

Hello Rob.

I have just bought my domain name today in NameCheap. A great service, I had it configured and working in minutes.

Now it's Emma Alvarez Blog

After configuring in Blogger, you can visit with the old or the new link all the posts. Old links work.

But I have problems:
- My pagerank was not actualized yet, I fear it will takes some months more to update.
- My Alexa Rank has disappeared. When will I regain it? I have emailed Alexa support telling the new url and saying how they can see it's the same url. I have also send the new url.
- The social buttons like Digg now link to no post when voting. They also show zero points. This is because the url has changed to Emma Alvarez Blog etc.

Please Rob, tell me if you know:
- when will I be given PageRank
- when will I regain my Alexa Rank
- how to fix the voting buttons problem

You see this is big problem, although now I have my own domain, and of good quality.

Hi Emma,

Congrats on making the move.

Pagerank will be given on the next update. Now is a GREAT time to build that blogroll by doing exchanges with other bloggers you respect who also have quality relevant blogs.

Alexa will also update again it will take some time but within the next few weeks you will definitely appear again.

Voting problems I'd leave going to the old one and leave the content there if possible. If not older posts won't be dug as much anyways so its not the end of the world. Just make sure they all point to your new site from now on.

Hi there !

I made the move as well to WordPress and I'm quite happy about it.

For page rank... we'll see at the next update ! I used to be a PG3, now I'm a proud PG0

Same goes with Alexa...

I don't have much advice to offer, I think you did well. URL changes lead to minor problem like the ones you mentioned but it should solve itself soon once Google picks up the new URL and you update in social bookmarking etc.
