I guess that some of you may be curious about the banner on the front page of this site, and I'd like to take the time to explain it here. Firstly, I'd like to thank Rob for his generosity in donating the webspace necessary to display the banner, as I emailed him from the cold without him knowing who I was. Rob, may your charity be rewarded.
As you may well be aware, this is Breast Cancer Awareness month; if you are not aware, then you've come to the right place. In an attempt to spread this awareness (with the added hope of raising a mountain of cash to aid breast cancer researchers in their hunt for a cure), myself and some colleagues in favour of the idea have chosen to put on a blogging event. Blogging For Boobs is an event that is hinged around the need to make people aware that they should regularly self-examine breasts for lumps or growths. Whilst men are susceptible to developing cancer of the breasts and should also self-examine, the much larger percentage of those afflicted with the cancer are women. Globally, approximately 1.5 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. "Having breast cancer is massive amounts of no fun. First they mutilate you; then they poison you; then they burn you. I have been on blind dates better than that. Molly Ivins - Time Magazine Online" Beyond statistics lie the enduring truths of pain. Cancer of the breast is a disease that does not discriminate. It can strip those who suffer from it of all human dignity as they battle through the various symptoms and stages of illness. With radiation, chemotherapy, and mastectomy to navigate, the terrain is as harsh and unyielding as the journey is lonely. The human cost is immense. To lose a breast - or both - is emotionally, psychologically, and physically defeminising. They are closely tied to a woman's nurturing instict, play a vital role in motherhood and the bonding relationship with children, and serve as an agent of confidence in the manifestation of sexuality and femininity. Of course, rapid breast cancer growth does not merely end with the loss of one or both breasts. The lives lost due to breast cancer send devastating ripples through families and sectors of the community. With one death many relationships are severed due to the many roles a woman fills as mother; daughter; wife; friend, or colleague. Society itself needs a breast cancer cure, and in lieu of a cure, breast cancer treatment that will effectively improve the cancer patient's quality of life and longevity. While there are many ventures and organisations that deal specifically with fundraising for breast cancer research, we have selected The International Breast Cancer Research Foundation as the beneficiary of Blogging For Boobs Day. Located in 22 countries worldwide, the IBCRF focuses on cutting edge research "that takes advantage of the most promising opportunities and ideas everywhere in the world." An institution with a global vision and a dedication to scrutinise each new lead in their desire to solve the riddle of breast cancer, the IBCRF is deeply worthly of all donations to their cause. International Breast Cancer Research Foundation What, When, Where, How? What? The Blogging For Boobs Campaign - while breast cancer awareness is the topic that we are lending our support to, the topic does not necessarily have to be about breast cancer, as we do not wish to exclude those who have not had any experience with it. Participation is key, and you can assist in this way by posting a banner of support on your site. Blogging in support of breast cancer awareness, no matter what the subject, will help us to create a much needed awareness network in order to promote the cause. We would like to see as many personal anecdotes and stories on the subject, so if you have these to tell then we would appreciate your contribution. Please remember to keep all posts tasteful. When? Sunday, the 28th of October, 2007 9am (PST) (US) Where? The portal for the day will be located at MySpace.com Blogs - Jé Maverick MySpace Blog, with no less than ten associated "hub" blogs which will operate as link directories. How: If you have a blog and you wish to participate in this event, please send all of your links and relevant information to: boobs@webforhumanity.org You will receive notification and all publicity information in a timely manner once we have received your link. Thankyou in advance for your participation. Through the building of links and networks, how can we not change the world? ![]() Jé Maverick Web For Humanity Executive Co-ordinator __________________________________________________ "...stone by stone the human castle rises..." - Pablo Neruda |

Thanks, Chrissie. I'd like to thank you for advertising our button on your site, and I've already posted a bulletin to my network of more than 4000 friends to let them know of your generosity, and I will be linking back to your blog from mine tonight. As there is only a week left to gather support for this initiative, I'm extremely grateful. I've sent you a response email, so hopefully it reaches you soon. |

Yes, that is precisely what we are looking for. Participation on the 28th would be most welcome, and a great way to add to the network of awareness. Thankyou!

Thanks for joining the forum Jé,
Everyone reading this has a special woman in there life whether it's a mother, daughter, sister or grandmother. Help raise awareness on something that can target any woman; Breast Cancer. I've put up the banner and link on my front page. It's only a few days away so if you can do anything why not?? Good causes like this should get all the help they can. Best of luck, Rob
