I honestly don't know if my own blog is a no-follow or do-follow. I produce ALL content, but I have a business relationship with someone who does everything that requires 'code'. I haven't done anything that involves source code.

All major blogging software come as No Follow as the default link setting, thanks to Google. You have to add a plugin that removes or alters this default setting to make your blog become Do Follow. You can use something like SEOQuake, with the line through featured enabled, to easily tell if the site that you are visiting is Do Follow or not.

How's that they increase spam? Please explain before I, too get into this kind of advertising. Thanks.

If your site is "do-follow," it is more likely that people will want to spam your site since links on your site will supposedly be more beneficial than those on a "no-follow" site.

Then if your site is listed on one of the pages linked above that basically somehow find a bunch of do-follow blogs and list them all together, it will be even more likely for you to receive spam.

Scott explained things very well. Do Follow blogs and sites become link magnets becuase everyone needs backlinks. The problem here is that instead of leaving useful comments most don't and they will likely not even read your post but they will comment just to get a link.

Then there is the auto bot spammers. They load these lists into the bot software and they spam you on auto pilot.

I used to provide these lists until I saw the damage that they did.

If you do post comments, make sure the comments are relevant and will add to the content of the page... when regulating my comments, I always delete the dull "nice post, thanks for sharing" comments, as whilst they are polite, they are so clearly people just after my link. So if you are just after the link... make those comments really creative!

What you have described here is what I like to call Scratch My Back Marketing. It all about win/win marketing.

Good luck with these lists folks. If all you are going to do is spam them then they will quickly become useless. It happens all the time. Many blog owners hate ending up on these lists because all they produce is spammy traffic.
