Default SEO questions...

I have written several articles on Hubpages and they keep talking about search engine optimization. Where do you start with this process. I"m a little lost on how to convince a search engine to place you somewhere.

Thanks!

It's all about building links. Say you have a blog and you're trying to optimize it for a specific keyword, you want to build as many links as you possibly can. The more links you have the more search engines think your site is that much important.

But do you have an example that I can see and help you out from there?

Building links and targeting keywords. Sounds simple, but it is a lot of work!

If you are just starting out, I recommend that you read as much as you can to get off on the right foot!

i agree on what he said, you gather information first as much as you can. and you need to decide and look for the right keywords for your blogs.

This is a false statement. If pages that are linking to you have nothing to do with your pages being linked you will actually get penalized by search engines. I suggest researching the SEO topic a bit more.

You can start building links by being active in a forum. For example signatures (all the links below __________________ ) are a good way to get links back to your web site.

Also commenting on other people's blogs might give you some links back. But one thing you can always do through which you will get high quality links is guest posts. Search for a blog that gets a lot of traffic and is more successful than yours and then write a guest post for the blog.

Link building takes time. Talk and discuss in forums, on blogs and publish articles to good, reputable article directories. You'll need a combination of links (off page SEO) and content and keywords (on page SEO). remember meta tags, H1 headings, title pages - all of these have to contain keywords which also appear in your content. Remember - there are techniques to stay away from unless you want search engines to ban your website.
