I switched my blog from the default nofollow to dofollow. I had hoped it would bring in more comments since people would get backlinks from the search engines.

Unfortunately I can't figure out how to swap a blogger blog to dofollow (any help would be appreciatd!) But I think he was speaking more in the lines of page sculpting. I'm sure dofollow links would help bring some traffic looking for more backlinks, but the best I can do is the recent comments widget...I haven't checked the widget yet, but assume they are also nofollow |

Getting traffic is not a reason to make your links do follow. The only traffic that you would get from making links do follow is spammer traffic. Legitimate readers don't even know what do follow means. Even those that do probably don't check through the code of your blog to see if it is do follow. In short do follow comment links only attract spam bots, not the real humans who will click ads and leave quality comments.

I have the nofollow removed on one of my blogs, but it didn't really help the comments all that much, but it's a new blog as well. I comment on other blogs if they have nofollow links or not, I comment because I like the blogs

I'm with Nathan on this one: "Legitimate readers don't even know what do follow means. Even those that do probably don't check through the code of your blog..." and making links do-follow just attracts spammers. What ever good it might somehow do you, you'll lose the benefit in moderating spam and stomping on bots. IMHO.

Thanks for the warning, I made mine DoFollow, more as a way to help other bloggers as most of the people who leave comments are other mom-bloggers. I'd love to help give their pages more exposure if I can. I agree though, if spam gets excessive I will definitely remove the Dofollow and return to the land of NoFollow.

a nofollow link shouldn't be avoided like the plague, it's still a passage to your site whether it helps your rank or not. It's good to comment on other bloggers blogs, it builds relationships and gives you and the other blogger different perspectives... yes I would much rather comment on a dofollow blog, but I don't check links to see |

I turned my blog to nofollow from dofollow as it was attracting lot of spam. Most of the people were commenting just for the sake of backlinks
