nofollow is a HTML tag telling search engines you don't trust said link, in HTML code a nofollow link would look like this: <a herf='URL of the link' rel='nofollow'>Anchor Text Here</a> This simply tells search engines you don't trust this site, maybe you haven't visited it or some other reason. It keeps the search engine from passing credit to the linked site where as a followed link would pass some credibility. an example of a followed link would be: <a herf='URL of the link'>Anchor Text Here</a> Backlinks are just links pointing to your site from other sites, the 3 links in my signature are backlinks to my blogs. Backlinks help improve the ranking of your blog when they show up on related sites and with keywords in the anchor text. Bloggers default settings makes all comment links nofollow, I think wordpress does too. Wordpress has some easy plugins for you to convert to dofollow, but so far blogger doesn't. I decided to give dofollow a try and have managed to swap my " Learn How To Start A Blog " to dofollow to give it a try, hopefully it doesn't attract too much spam but all my comments are moderated just in case. I may convert all but this is just my tester for now. I'll be updating with the news on my blog later along with a walkthrough of how to convert yours. |

I use nofollow because I think it doesn't make a huge difference. I mean what good is it to share some links love for your readers which are not really valuable for them either. It doesn't do them any good because if you use dofollow people start to add keywords to their name which destroys the reasons for comments. They also start to use more keywords in their comment text which makes comments near to useless.

After reading these postings, I realize I have some studying to do. I need to look into dofollow and nofollow links. Right now, I have the default on my blogs. I have not changed anything, which might very well be OK, according to at least a couple other bloggers who are in the know. I do like reading about these things, and finding out what I don't know. Thanks, expert bloggers!

All my links are do follow - my reasoning being that any links on my site are moderated and therefore trusted. If I was linking to anything that needed to be no-follow, then I wouldn't link to it at all. I understand the issues with spammers and those who only comment to get the link, but I guess thats just the way it is.
