What is dofollow? I have heard people talking about this but not sure what it is? I'd use any way I can to promote my blog!

dofollow are normal hyperlinks - i.e. the link has not had the dreaded "nofollow" tag applied to it

I decided to make my blog "dofollow" a while back.

Google will follow a "dofollow" link back to an article on your blog (assuming you leave the URL) and give you a backlink for it.

If it were a "nofollow" blog (which a lot of them are), you would not get credit for the backlink.

Here is an article on it.
What is dofollow?

Not exactly true - any link has value and search engines follow all links

A nofollow link tells google not to pass any link juice to the page being linked to

We obviously seek out high pagerank dofollow links - but if that's all you had pointing to your sites, google would smell a rat and penalize your site

Last time I heard, yahoo and bing ignore nofollow tags and treat the link like any other

The main point of using a nofollow tag is to get at the spammers
or at least thats what I hear when I check the scope of it

regardless of havine a no follow tag or not if you make
a high quality comment at a blog or other site that
uses nofollow I'm guessing google will notice
because your comment will get more clicks
anyway and your article or blog post will
begin to rise.

You just don't get the extra PR bump (straight off)

I haven't done a lot of research into other advantages or
disadvantages of the dofollow / nofollow tag.

So please correct me if I am wrong here

The nofollow tag cuts off the google PR link juice completely

It doesn't stop you syphoning off visitors from the site giving you the link - so you should be grateful for any link

Even a nofollow link from a high pagerank page does wonders for your site's reputation

If you only had dofollow links from high pagerank pages, google would smell a rat - that's not a normal link pattern

Avoid "Do follow" lists, they are honey pots to catch flies that are trying to cheat the engines.

Just blog, naturally link to those you like and those who like you will naturally link back. "Cheating" on the web is really self sabotage.
