SEO: How to increase traffic?

I set up a blog about three weeks ago, and it hasn't been doing well. So far there's been a total of 322 hits since the blog went live. Most of those are from two recording-related sites where I publicized it.

I've submitted the site to just about every search engine under the sun, including Google. Even though Google says the blog site has been 'verified', it still hasn't crawled it.

The only thing that has brought my blog up in the Google listing is the Blogcatalog submission, and now the blog listing sits in second place beneath a listing for a commercial site, which happens to have a name very similar to my blog.

Wondering how to get my listing in first place in Google's search engine results and more traffic. I could probably use more content.

Submit your blog to blog directories, RSS Feeds and blog commenting helps. Engaging on other techniques also helps such as forum posting, article submissions, classified ads, online groups, social bookmarking and press release.

Time grasshopper, you need time. Have you submitted to these ten great sites for leveraging website traffic? Does your own content build links for you? Is your content interesting, spelled correctly and not full of spam?

I always say that if you're following these steps and still not getting traffic, you need to create more content.

Have you used a google sitemap to make yourself a little easier to crawl? I think it helps, though content and regular posting always worked for me.

Three things one has to concentrate to gain traffic through search engine optimization. First is relevant and quality content on a particular keyword usually related to your niche. Second is link building, link exchange and reciprocal linking so more sites will be pointing to your site as reference. Last one is social media participation so people who have an account on these social media sites will get to know your site. With all this have a tell-a-friend form on your site, because the most powerful technique for getting visitors is a personal referral.
