Default Long URL's Are there Really Negative Consequences?

While I usually try to limit my title to 65 spaces including blanks- I notice its cut off from Google after 65 usually, on another thread it was mentioned not to do long URLs. Will they really give you lower Googler Indexing?

In general no.
In fact long urls are good. It definitely helps to put in the keywords in your URL.

But don't overdo it. Dont use big bloated urls. I posted that plugin to allow you to maintain a decent sized url while stuffing it with keywords.

They suggest not using excessive hyphenation, but they understand web design is easier when the pages are named in a meaningful way. Bottom line just don't over do it.

Why would there be negative consequences to a long url? Just as long as you don't repeat keywords etc... it should be fine.

This can mean showing up later in the results if you are trying to rank for particular keywords - the keyword density in the url would be less dense and therefore to rank for a certain term you might see negative effects.

For example, if you wanted to rank for keywords "best social bookmarking tools of 2009" it would makes sense to have best-social-bookmarking-tools-2009 as url as opposed to my-list-of-the-best-social-bookmarking-tools-i-used-most-often-in-2009. Okay, this is a lame example, but you get what I am saying.

Your site does not get a lower rating from Google, it is indexed well unless there are too many session IDs (but this is in dynamic URL creation). The negative effects are in trying to rank in the search engine results for specific keywords.

Don't stuff your post URLs with keywords - make it relevant to post content and geared to users.

I think shorter URL could be remember much more easily. However, if you have already have a long URL, it will be wise to connect your link to short Keyword. Using short URL tools won't be a good option.
