Site Owner/Admin/Mods - if I am out of line on this post, feel free to chastise me. If you have read any of my postings, you know that I can be a tad bit opinionated and tend to speak out. So let me speak out a bit again and tell you good people here at bloggeries that I think it's a real shame that a lot of posters offer to do blog reviews if they get a review in turn. And then they disappear. WTH? I have followed this trend in the forum since I have been a member here, and it disturbs me. I think, for the most part, the bloggers here do want an honest opinion of their sites and are willing to do the same. With that in mind, I have this proposal for you folks -- On the spur of a moment, I spent the better part of the afternoon putting together a website to do reviews for you bloggers who want them. It's a basic site, nothing fancy right now, but it will improve over time. The idea here is to give you guys and gals that want it a fair, honest review of your site. All you need to do is head over to 125blogs.com and fill out the contact form asking for a review. Don't forget to leave your site URL. If you do this, I need you keep this in mind: I will always do a fair, honest review. That means if you make me go ACK, I am going to tell you and the world that you made me go ACK. Likewise, if you captured my attention, the world gets to know you captured my attention. What kind of blog you have doesn't matter to me. While a lot of subjects don't especially interest me, the point here is how your site looks, feels, reads and interacts to me. I can read anything if I can get through two important steps to your blog, which I won't share with you here. This is absolutely free to you bloggers, no strings whatsoever. You'll get live links from my review to your site, as well as a position in the blogroll that will rotate down for a period of time. I am not asking anything in return from a reviewed site - its up to you as blog owners to determine if there was real value in anything I said about you and your blog. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. |

I don't see any problem with you promoting your new blog review site here. I've seen one or two others start blogs with a similar idea to them. In all honesty, having been here at bloggeris for almost a year, it seems that _most_ people who start a thread in THIS forum don't really want a long, and thorough blog review. Most people want a short "great blog" review so they can feel good about their site, even if it is loaded with grammar mistakes. In my opinion, there is almost nothing useful about a one sentence "great blog- nice layout" post. On top of it all, most people seem to have a mistaken belief that this site is going to bring them tons of traffic. Not really true. You pretty much have to figure out how to write really unique and informative content that isn't everywhere else on the web, and then you have to do a little marketing to find the people that like your particular niche.

OFF-TOPIC: Not a coffee drinker, nor am I a Starbucks fan, but I have enjoyed visiting your site. Should be a required visit for the newbies to see how a proper blog is done. Thanks for responding. |

I do find that a lot of users here do tend to "hit and run" - put in a couple of posts (mostly 1 or 2), and then disappear - many are posting here just as a one-time effort at linking/promotion; or new bloggers looking for a community, but have their blogging stop a few months after. I wonder if we can classify the former as "spammers" in the future...well, for now I'll leave it at that. Oh, and good luck with your new blog review site.

maybe it's the fact that newbies like me come here for answers, find them and may not have the "daily need" to return .. i.e questions answered. Participation above and beyond that depends on the topics covered and the reaction of others. Yes i do look for links back to my blog as well.

What I'm talking about are posters who sign up, leave one post saying "I can help, click here at adadad.com, and disappear." "I am so and so, just went so and so, please click here for xxx" People genuinely seeking information are always welcome

First of all @ topic: I think it's very genrous of you to offer reviews and I'm certainly thinking about contacting you for that exact purpose. @ newbie discussion: I believe that all the things you already said are true, but you should also consider that some newbies might be put off by the 15 posts rule (even though a lot just ignore it and post their blog promo somewhere else) and/or the amount of spam (I'm not trying to turn this into a spam discussion, really not - and I know that you guys are doing your best to fight it :) ). *I* was thinking about leaving after a few days because of those reasons but eventually stuck around when I found more interesting threads for myself to read and participate than spam stuff (by now I just keep on reporting it ...)

unfortunately whilst I agree with you, its the nature of the internet and theres not a great deal you can do stop half-hearted bloggers and hit and run reviews without having someone personally visit the sign-up-ee and vet them thoroughly to see what their like... Well I suppose you could do a SomethingAwful kind of thing and make people pay for an account but it could also potentially kill off any new signups. its a double edged sword and you have to take the good with the bad. |
