My 1st Blog - Comments / Criticism / Abuse Welcome!!

Hey, so I decided to start a new blog (years after the boat sailed ) and I thought I'd come here to the guys who know the scene.

I used to be heavily interested in making magazines as a kid and a teen but I hated the pain of printing them. Eventually the hobby took a backseat for other duties where it ended up gathering dust!

I'm pretty new to the creating a blog scene (nearly 2 weeks ago, I think) so I'm learning as I'm going along, my HTML is fairly rusty but it's slowly coming back!

I'm focusing heavily on movies (trivia, feature articles, reviews, etc) and the odder things to be found on the web and in world news.

The Irish blogging scene has died down a fair amount since the original boom of it so it's quite hard to get my blog out there. I really want this to work but I don't want to lose the motivation down the line if I don't think anyone is paying attention. I'll be essentially blogging to myslef

Anywho, I'd be grateful if anyone could throw their 2 cents in on my blog. I'm also having a bit of a hard time advertising the thing (slapped it up on Facebook, Google, etc) Haven't really a clue beyond that on how to get it out there! I understand Twitter is a good way to go but nobody I know uses Twitter at all so that's a bit of a dampener already.

I understand this is a slow progress like a snowball effect but as long as I can see people are interested then I'll continue to the end of time, progressing bigger and further.

Technically we were supposed to be aliens on a holiday, all threatening but with no powers. We just went to the local shop and joked around with the customers and staff.

Went to the pubs then to do the same and got free drink for dressing up, result!

It looks like you're off to a good start.

I would say that one thing you should do is narrow down your niche a little more. Is it movies or what is quirky? You don't have to, but I definitely think the most successful blogs have some kind of predictable niche.

As for social media, there is no requirement you know someone first. But the whole process is slow. There are a ton of threads around here on how to use twitter.

Since I have a strong bias in favor of twitter, I recommend a "tweet this" button at the bottom of your blog posts.

@Melody, I know exactly what you mean on choosing a niche. It's something I've been struggling with since I started on what to lock down to. I love everything movie related but also the odder things you'd find on the web. I've had comments on people enjoying both aspects of subjects, especially the quirkier articles.

Your Tweet advice is noted, no harm in throwing it in.

I'm thinking of changing the layout / style to make it more obvious on what the blog is about. Maybe sort things out in categories, too, to clean it up.

You're off to a super start! I see it's only your first month and you have sixty-something posts. Content is ultimately what will make or break your blog. Keep up the good work!
