Default What makes a good design.

I have been looking at different blogs. It appears to me that a good design starts with your concept. I have been so impressed by the different designs that I am having my blog redesigned. I can't wait until it is done so I can get it reviewed. So, my question what is a good design?

A good design is visually appealing and easy to navigate. :-)

A good design goes well with the niche, looks great, easy to navigate, colors that are easy on the eyes & psychologically appealing (blue is popular) and is not a copycat. A good design is unique from the rest and makes you stand out from the crowd!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have looked at various blogs and some have a lot of widgets and ads. I am sometimes distracted from the blog because of those things. I am looking at adding some sort of index into my design because I have a lot of postings and that may help people navigate through those postings.

Well I am still having fun.

I prefer when a blog doesn't have too many adds. That, and some interesting pics, and an eye catching color scheme that is pretty but not loud or dstracting.

Personally I like blogs that focus more on content rather than looks. Though having some pictures and an interesting design isn't a bad thing, it shouldn't be the main appeal. Easy to navigate and visually appealing, two good things to have.

For me a good design is one which fits to the topic of your blog. For example a gamer blog will look completely different than a writer blog.

But there are things every good design needs. First of all white space is important. There should be enough white space in the blog design so that nothing seems cluttered. I think some of the best designs are simply creative. Creative designs are the best way to get someone to come back.
Another essential is typography. I believe that there are actually only a few things that are more important than typography. All of the good designs include great typography.

I think a good design has a "feel" when you enter the main page. So blogs are dark, some are cheery. When you read the content I think the blog should match the content.

I found some blogs that seem to have a lot of clutter, it is like filling a small room with big furniture it overwhelms the space. Well those are some of my ideas.

My blog design has been completed, so I hope that the inside, content matches the feel. Be well
