Thanks for the input everyone.
I also want to reiterate what everyone says around here about the importance of content.
I started my blog on November 30, 2009 (about 67 days ago) and I have 52 posts so far (not quite 1 per day). So far my site has received almost 2300 visits (~35 visits per day) and almost 3100 page views (~46 per day). I don't think that is that bad, especially since only about 1 or 2 of my requests to get on similar sites blogrolls have been fulfilled.
- Direct Traffic 992.00 (43.34%)
- Search Engines 680.00 (29.71%)
- Referring Sites 616.00 (26.91%)
- Other 1 (0.04%)
That's the breakdown of the visits from Google Analytics. A good portion of the direct traffic (and some of the search engines) came from where I made some comments on a news site and posted my url but it wasn't a hyperlink so people copied and pasted it either into their address bar or into google and then got to my site.
Also in the past few days I have got like 600 search engine visits from some search terms that are in the news that my site is appearing either #1 or close in search engine results.
Some of the referral visits were from commenting on some news sites that allowed a url hyperlink to be posted, some were from commenting on other blogs, and some others were news aggregation type sites that just found my site on their own and correlated my blog post with related news articles.
Anyway, thanks for the advice everyone.
